Ready to learn all about passion and letting it drive your career? On this episode, we sit down with Kathryn Sukey, Executive Vice President of Design at Draper James.
This episode is all about passion, and letting your passion drive your career! I was SO excited to sit down and chat with Kathryn Sukey, the Executive Vice President of Design at Draper James. Kathryn oversees the design for all in-house, private label, and licensed product categories and is often highlighted as the head of design for the brand, and design partner to Reese Witherspoon. Dive in to learn all about how Kathryn got her start in design and how she worked hard to turn her passion into a career!
Kathryn joined Draper James in April 2018 following 4 years as the Senior Design Director of Accessories for Kate Spade New York. Prior to Kate Spade, Kathryn designed handbags for Coach and Liz Claiborne, and spent 4 years in RTW design at the beginning of her career at Douglas Hannant and Oscar de la Renta. She received her BA in Art History from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and went on to study apparel design and millinery in Ottawa, Canada.
Now, she lives in Manhattan with her husband and two children, and we are so excited to share a glimpse behind the scenes at Draper James with her!
This episode dives in on how Kathryn got her feet wet in design and how she grew her career from there. She talks about the inspiration she drew from her mother, as she was taught to sew from eight years old and the way she presented her strategy to Reese Witherspoon from the very get-go.
Kathryn talks about the importance of being present in the moment in everything you do and decorating the body you were given and embracing it! Kathryn shares all about the holiday party she loves to throw, the recipe she makes every year at Christmas time, and what she does at the start of every morning to celebrate the every day.
I truly felt like I was sitting down having coffee with a girlfriend while recording this episode with Kathryn, and I’m so excited to share it with you!
